power in nature: 30 x 30 CA
Nature Can't Wait
30x30 is achievable, but we must act now.
California must protect 6 million acres of lands and 500,000 acres of coastal waters in under 6 years, but this year’s proposed budget cuts could bring 30×30 to a halt. The Power in Nature Coalition is asking members of the California Legislature to take bold action to support progress before it’s too late.
#1 Restore deep reductions
Funding for the following is urgently needed to prevent conservation acquisition, restoration, and land management from stalling out.
- Wildlife Conservation Board (WCB)
- Dept. of Water Resources
- State Coastal Conservancy
- Individual state conservancies
- Science and monitoring, including for the Ocean Protection Council and CalFire’s science-based monitoring
#2 Support in-district projects
The Power in Nature coalition continues to identify dozens of projects across the state. Legislators should support projects in their areas. See our map of recommended projects.
#3 support an equitable climate bond
30×30 will grind to a halt without a bond on the 2024 Ballot to provide long-term funding. 160 organizations agree that we need:
- $1.5 billion for biodiversity conservation via the WCB, state conservancies, and CDFW
- $1 billion for Coastal Resilience
- $4.7 billion in environmental justice priorities
#4 Support Ocean Protection Council's four strategies
- Adaptive management of the state Marine Protected Area network
- Enhancing protections within National Marine Sanctuaries
- Supporting tribally-led conservation through Indigenous Marine Stewardship Areas
- Exploring the role of Other Effective Conservation Measures
